Multimodal Project Part 3

The heart reflects the emotional aspect of depression. Family can both help and hurt depression. While loving support can ease and help with treating the depressed teen, tension and family problems could have also caused depression in the first place. Loss of a loved one can greatly impact a teen's life, and the suffering can also led to anxiety or other clinical illnesses. Bullycide is suicide as a result of bullying. A bully can target and hurt a teen so much that the teen feels worthless and hopeless.

The stomach holds the physical effects of depression. A depressed teen may feel very uneasy and experience nausea. Loss of appetite also occurs, and eventually weight-loss follows. The teen may also become physically unhealthy as a result of both lack of sleep and nutrition.

Multimodal Project Part 2

The limbs of the person tell different parts of depression. The left side shows the violence that a teen inflicts on his or herself. The scars are from self-harm with a razor, an activity in which many teens unfortunately participate. Words like violence, soreness and bullies inhabit the left arm. There is also a reference to Jared, a boy who had committed suicide as a result of being bullied.

The right arm represents a different part of depression, the part that brings hope and light. It is the arm that reaches out for help. Communication, support and treatment are all crucial to a teen getting better. Words like therapy, medicine, meditation, treatment, and counseling can be found here.

The legs have the actions of a depressed teen. One common quality of all teens with depression is loss of interest. Instead of getting involved with their lives, teens want to simply lie in a dormant state. Hiding from their fears is also very apparent, as teens tend to skip school, refrain from activities, and spend much time in solitude. Along with running away from stressful situations, teens also may hide the fact that they are depressed. A teen could deny it or simply not seek help for fear of being judged.

Body Biography Multimodal Project Part 1

The body biography I made depicts what a teen with depression is like. I used words, images, and examples of teens to demonstrate what that teen looks like inside.

In the head, I drew a giant cloud to show the teen's hazy outlook, along with a variety of words that explain how he or she is feeling. Words such as Stress, sadness, angst, pessimism, disillusionment, and hopelessness are present here.

On the face, I drew two eyes, one with tears to show how he or she feels alone, and the other a normal eye to depict the facade he or she has to put on daily. I also have on the head insomnia, fatigue, panic and drugs to show the lack of energy one experiences and the drugs that could have either caused the depression or followed as a way to cope.

Around the head, I have words such as secluded, school, isolated, withdrawal, and family problems. These words show how the depressed teen feels in society, and they also are possible causes for depression.
